Thanks Living: The A's Have It!

I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness, And will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. Psalm 7:17

Praise: give thanks

According to His righteousness: of God's attribute as sovereign

Sing praise: to celebrate in song and music

Name: as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character

Most High: the Supreme

As a result, I will thank the Eternal for His justice and sing praises in honor of the Eternal, Most High. Psalm 7:17 (VOICE)

PRAISE: 

noun: the act of expressing approval or admiration; commendation; laudation.

admire: verb. hold in high regard, great respect

I will give thanks, acclaim, admire, applaud and appreciate the Lord—not for anything I have done—But according to HIS Righteousness. And as I give thanks to Him, my soul will celebrate in song in honor and respect to the Supreme and only God! That is true Thanks Living! 

The A's Have It! Express approval, holding in high regard and expressing approval and appreciating God's righteousness—Thanks Living!

Thanks Living: Appreciate. Acknowledge. Advertise.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! Psalm 105:1

Give thanks: literally, to use (i.e. hold out) the hand; physically, especially to revere or worship (with extended hands—the open one—indicating power, means, direction, etc.)

Call: to call out to (i.e. Properly, address by name) -- invite, mention, preach, (make) proclaim, pronounce, publish, read, renowned, say

Name: honor, authority, character

Make known: to know (properly, to ascertain by seeing); observation, recognition; acknowledge, acquainted with, be aware, comprehend, consider, declare, be diligent, discover, endued with, familiar friend, famous, have knowledge, have respect, teach, understand

Deeds: action, doing, invention, occasion, work

Peoples: a people (as a congregated unit); (collectively) troops or attendants; folk, men, nation, people.

Thank God! Pray to him by name! Tell everyone you meet what he has done! Psalm 105:1 (MSG)

When someone does something nice for us, we want to tell everyone we meet. We are excited and often overwhelmed. We will even tell strangers as we wait in check out lines. 

Yet, sadly, we remain silent about all the wonderful things God has done and is doing. 

Notice the order of events that are to take place in Psalm 105:1—

1. Give thanks. Be thankful, appreciative

2. Call upon His name. Say it, in prayer, talk to Him and talk about Him. 

3. Make known His deeds. Observe them, acknowledge them, discover them, understand them and make sure those around you know about them too! 

Thanks Living is first being appreciative of and acknowledging the Giver, then that is followed by advertising the joy with those whom I know and meet. 

Appreciate. Acknowledge. Advertise. Three important "As" in Thanks Living!

Expressing Gratitude

This year, I'm sharing my "Treasures" of my study of my "Ponder the Morsels" book. I've picked 31 Psalms to study throughout 2013. Today I studied Psalm 100. Here is what I learned.

Enter his gates with a song of thanksgiving. Come into his courtyards with a song of praise. Give thanks to him; praise his name. Psalm 100:4 (GW)

Go through His gates, giving thanks; walk through His courts, giving praise. Offer Him your gratitude and praise His holy name. Psalm 100:4 (VOICE)

"Be thankful unto him." Let the praise be in your heart as well as on your tongue, and let it all be for him to whom it all belongs. "And bless his name." He blessed you, bless him in return; bless his name, his character, his person. Whatever he does, be sure that you bless him for it: bless him when he takes away as well as when he gives; bless him as long as you live, under all circumstances; bless him in all his attributes, from whatever point of view you consider him. Thankful: feeling or expressing gratitude; appreciative.

How do I express my thanks to Almighty God? 

1. In prayer. Tell God thank you. 
2. In my conversations. Let others know that I’m thankful for Who God is, and what He is doing.
3. In my life. Live a life pleasing to God. If I’m truly thankful to God, I’ll want my life to be honoring to Him. 
4. In my thoughts. What do I think of God? Remembering that my thoughts are words to God! 

Expressing gratitude to Almighty God will make each and every day a positive one! 

Person or the Job

The other day I said "I appreciate what you do" to someone. As I walked away, it got me thinking. Do I appreciate what they do? Or who they are? There is a difference.

Some people I don't know, so I do appreciate what they do.... but with other people...those whom I've gotten to know...I should appreciate THEM, not JUST what they do. 

If I just appreciate the actions, I can take the person for granted. "But it's their job." That doesn't mean I shouldn't appreciate the person. When I only see the job, the person becomes invisible. The more I try to get to know the people around me, the more I appreciate what they do and who they are. The more I get to know the people around me, my life is enriched. 

For example, I live in an apartment building, so there are many who keep the complex up and running. Living here 16 years, the owners have changed, and so has the staff. But as I get to know the individuals, I appreciate what they do, even more. By taking a few minutes to talk with the person, I learn about their vacations (that sure helps me not complain when something isn't done that week...they are gone!). I learn about the fun things they do, their struggles, and when they get hurt. As I talk with them, I learn to appreciate the person, not just when they complete their job.

If I am only grateful for what people do for me, I can become very selfish. I expect so and so to do "ABC" for me. Rather than thinking of the person doing the job, I think of only what's in it for me. That's not only just wrong... it's being very ungrateful. We all like it when people like our work, but we like it even more when people appreciate US.

I hope as I go about my life, I'll take a moment to SEE the people who do things around me, and get to KNOW each individual. Yes, I'll still appreciate what they do..... but even more WHO they are.

Each day, we meet a variety of people: a deliver person, the clerk at the coffee shop, a co-worker, a garage mechanic, doctors, the list continues. To honestly create a positive day, I must reach out to those people and share a smile and kind word.  At first, it may be about their work..but as I see that person every day, appreciating them....will make the day a very positive one—for both of us!
