Changing to Improve!

Change.

That's one word which I don't really like. I'm a habitual person and once I find something that works, I stay with it. However, I can honestly say that I'm excited about some changes happening in my life.

In June 2010, with the help of my Pain Management Dr. and Chiropractor, I weaned off all my pain medications and changed to a vegan, gluten-free, organic diet. There were basically three reasons for these changes.

1. We wanted to try a new treatment to see if we could "reboot" the nervous system. However, due to circumstances that treatment had to be delayed until August 2011.
2. After being on pain medications for 10 years, my body had reached a toxic level. It was time to detox the body.
3. We wanted to try to see if we could lower my pain level naturally.

I have enjoyed the vegan and gluten-free diet. I've been introduced to new vegetables, new spices, and new products which I didn't know existed. Overall, I feel better. However, my pain level remains too high.

In August 2011, we tried Lidocaine Infusion treatments to see if we could "reboot" the nervous system and lower the pain. After eleven treatments, my Dr. and I decided to stop. The treatments were having the opposite effect on me—my pain level was increasing.

Now what?

It seems like everything we try to lower my pain increases it. There is one thing which I haven't made a decision on, and that is my spinal stimulator (a pacemaker for pain). My stimulator is broken, so I can't use it. I have to make the decision on replacing it with an entirely new stimulator (paddle & battery)—that would be back surgery #9. Right now, I'm not sure what I want to do, so, the best thing is to do nothing.

With my current pain level, exercising is impossible. And although I'm eating healthy, I'm not losing weight. I've tried a variety of things, however, none have worked for me.

Change—that I'm excited about!

My chiropractor is offering a new Weight Loss program, which is based on "resetting the pancreas and insulin levels". By resetting these and providing the body with proper nutrition, healthy proteins and vegetables, the body loses fat while retaining/building muscle. And due to the calorie restrictions, exercising in Phase 1 is not recommended. After discussing the program with my Chiropractor, we both believe that the Moore Health Ideal Weight Loss program is something I should try. I hope to begin the program within the next month. I'm looking forward to losing weight to aid me in being healthier.

Some are now asking...will you stay vegan and gluten-free? I will remain gluten-free since there is research that gluten can increase inflammation. However, for the length of the diet I will not be vegan. When I reach Phase 4 of the program, I'll make a decision about returning the vegan diet. My decision in going vegan, was to eat healthy. During the past year and half, I've learned much about food and nutrition. I plan to continue eating healthy and making sure that I'm getting the proper nutrition.

Change. Although I don’t like change very often. I’m excited about this change in my diet plan. I’ll keep you posted on how I do.

Another change which I've been very grateful for, is a deeper relationship with Christ, since my life changed dramatically in October 2000, when I injured my back. I continue to be overwhelmed by God’s goodness and care that He displays each and every day.

My Heavenly Father sure takes GREAT care of me! When I came home on Tuesday, God made sure that the 'open' handicap spot was of His choosing.

On Thursday, a snow storm came through leaving between 3 and 4 inches of snow. "He orders the snow, 'Blanket the earth!'" Job 37:6

God's handiwork sure looked beautiful this morning!

I left early for my chiropractic appointment, thinking my car would be covered in snow, as so many were. But God cleaned off my car! The location of my car and the wind God sent, cleaned off my car perfectly!

But God wasn't done yet. He prompted someone to shovel a CLEAR path to my car door. I'm so thankful for His loving care and taking care of the little details that make my day so much easier.

Creating a positive day is noticing how God takes care of the little details.

It’s December 31, 2011, and I’m thinking about my goals (some call them resolutions) for 2012. Oh, there are the “normal” goals which everyone makes, and not many keep: lose weight, exercise more, etc.

But what are my goals?

What do I want to accomplish
throughout 2012?

Okay, that’s not right—they shouldn’t be “MY” goals, rather the question should be:

“What does God want me to accomplish throughout 2012?”

That’s a much better perspective. Since God has a purpose and plan for me (Jeremiah 29:11) each goal I set, needs to fit into His plan. As I move forward in my life, I also have to look back and see all that God accomplished. Over the past eleven years, He has taught me amazing lessons, and has demonstrated His love in the most creative ways. I never would have imagined that a back injury in October 2000, would change my life so dramatically and at the same time present so many different opportunities.

So, as I reflect on the past, and prepare for the year ahead, the main thought which I can’t seem to ignore is “writing”. Oh, I mean more than on my blog. Perhaps it’s time to write a book: “It’s all in the details.” Even if I only write it for myself, I think it would be a wonderful blessing to see how God took care of each and every detail in my life.

As I think of where to begin on the details, it’s hard to know where to start. For so many of the situations, God worked years in advance to make sure everything was ready for me at the right time. But since I need a starting place, why not start in October 2000. For me, that’s when I began to personally notice how detail oriented God is.

As of today, December 31, 2011, I believe that God’s 2012 goal for me is to WRITE.

I'm studying the Book of Job. In Job 3, we learn some of Job's theology. Job wished that God forget the day Job was born, because of Job's anguish and pain. In order for someone to "forget" they have to know about it first!

Job knew very well, that God knew the VERY moment Job was conceived. God knew all about Job—before Job was even formed. Consider the magnitude of that fact. God is very aware of our MOMENT of conception.

Psalms 139

O God, You know me inside and out, through and through.

Everything I do, every thought that flits through my mind, every step I take, every plan that I make, every word that I speak, You know, even before these things happen.

You know my past; You know my future.

Yes, Job wanted God to forget the day he was conceived. Job wanted to have that day not even exist, so that Job wouldn't have to endure his suffering. But Job did not curse God, because Job knew that God had a plan and purpose in mind.

I think also that Job found comfort in the fact that if God knew Job's moment of conception, God was also VERY aware of what Job was enduring at that very moment.

Consider the magnitude of that fact!

The fact that God knows exactly what is happening, what I'm going through, all the details of my life—and CARES about it all.... that makes a very positive day!

A Year Designed by God-2011

January

Enjoyed continuing the Damaris Carbaugh Bible Study. Looking back over the study, I think the thing which amazed me the most was God's specific timing of each lesson. I'm grateful that the Leader, followed God's prompting in choosing the order of the songs for the Study. God knew exactly what I should be studying at a particular time, to keep me focused on Him as He worked in my life.

February

20 inches of snow brought out demonstrations of neighbors helping neighbors. There was no way I could dig my car out of the snow drifts (the car was covered-see the green arrow to the right!). However, neighbors worked together to make sure my car was able to drive out of the pile of snow.

March

Since Jr. High, I've worn glasses and each year, I've needed a new prescription. Yet, this year, my prescription did not change! That was great news, since I didn't need to replace my prescription sunglasses. I only had to buy on pair of glasses to replace the pair I broke. I wonder if the vegan, gluten-free diet helped with improving my eyesight? I know that the diet is much healthier for me.

April

On April 13th, God called my sister home to Heaven after a 4-year battle with cancer. Although I miss my sister, she is now rejoicing in Heaven with our Heavenly Father—that is the greatest blessing for us all! There were also additional blessings which God provided. A friend was able to drive me to Macon, so I could be there for the services. Both my brothers were able to attend, also. And my brothers and I were able to spend some time with our parents.

May

At first, the idea of having several apartment inspections didn't seem like much of a blessing. However, the reason for the inspections is a great blessing! These inspections are necessary so that I can receive reduced rent due to my disability. The reduce rent is just one way God supplies my needs. So, the inspections are blessings!

June

This month had a "hidden blessing". I didn't know it was a blessing until August! On June 9th I took my car in for an oil change and get a "roar" investigated. I spoke with "my guys" at the garage that I didn't want to put much money into fixing this car, as I was looking for a newer one. The roar didn't need to be fixed; however, my brakes were too bad to leave the garage. That was NOT in my plans as I was trying to SAVE money for a down payment. That would mean I'd have to delay the purchase of a new car by several months. Well, in August, I learned that God had a VERY good reason to delay my purchase! (see August for more details!).

July

Friends. God has blessed me with some AWESOME, godly friends. God provided me with exactly the perfect people to help me grow in grace and knowledge of God.

August

This month was an OVERFLOWING BLESSINGS month. God really went ALL-OUT this month!!

God made it possible for me to spend a week with some very dear friends. It was a much needed vacation for my body, soul, and spirit. It was an amazing "JOY-CATION!"

God also had a very wonderful blessing waiting for me. God provided a NEW CAR. Not just a "newer" car, but a BRAND NEW 2012 Ford Fiesta. I never thought that I'd have a new car. However, back in June, when I had to spend money on the brakes, God knew that this car wouldn't be ready until August, so He created a way to delay upgrading the car. God's timing is ALWAYS perfect!

September

I started my annual Blessings Celebration early this year. A friend and I were able to attend "My Fair Lady". God's blessings included in this "package" were: 1. a perfect parking spot. 2. a vegan, gluten-free lunch 3. discounted tickets. 4. a wonderful performance of "My Fair Lady". 5. enjoying it all with a wonderful friend.

October

Eleven years. WOW. Eleven years ago, I injured my back. October 2000. From a totally human perspective, the back injury followed by eleven years of chronic pain is definitely NOT a blessing. Yet, God has used my disability and pain to share His amazing love with others. People from ALL over the world read this blog. And I've developed a deeper and greater love for my God. He has shown OVER and OVER His care and love for me. I love seeing God's attention to detail and His creativity in caring for me. He constantly amazes me with His goodness. Would I like less pain? Yes. But, as God told Paul 2 Cor 12 "My (God's) grace is enough; it's all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness."

November

This month God's blessing was made possible with the help of many people. 45 Soldiers will be receiving Bibles for Christmas. It was an wonderful blessing to be able to wrap each Bible, thinking of the wonderful message contained therein—God's great gift of eternal life.

Looking back over the past year, since my 2010 Blessings Celebration, once again, God has showered me with more of His amazing blessings. All I can think to say is "God is good all the time. And all the time, God is good." And that fact make each and every day very positive!

2011 Blessings Celebration!

Wow! Where did the past year go? It seems like I was JUST writing about all the awesome things God planned for my 2010 Blessings Celebration—the Damaris Carbaugh concert and the Grill prize pack.

This year, my celebration started early. On Sept 28th, a friend and I attended "My Fair Lady" at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL.

As I was planning this part of my Blessings Celebration, once again God sent His special blessings! First, the Theatre was able to accommodate my need to stand. Secondly, they gave me a great deal on the tickets. I thought it would be nice to enjoy something to eat before our show, I went online and found the River's Edge Cafe. They graciously responded to my email concerning my diet (vegan, gluten-free) with, "yes, we have several vegan and gluten-free options!". YEAH! God is so good at taking care of ALL the details!

So, the Blessings Celebration was set.

On Sept 28th, my friend and I arrived in Aurora and the first thing God provided was the PERFECT parking spot! It was as close as you could get to the theatre, and just a short block from the Cafe. And since it was a Handicap spot, we didn't have a meter to feed.

We parked and enjoyed the short walk to River's Edge Cafe. What a wonderful place to enjoy a meal! I highly recommend it. Their hummus is the best I've tasted. WOW— what a great meal. And yes, there was even a "high" table for me. God doesn't miss a single detail.

After we ate, we walked over to the Theatre and picked up our tickets at the box office.

"My Fair Lady" was amazing. The live orchestra, the set design, and the performers all did such a professional, and "spot on" job. WOW!

I couldn't think of a better way to Celebrate God's wonderful blessings—great company, yummy food, and an awesome (& I mean AWESOME) performance of "My Fair Lady". Pain level extreme was extreme by the end of the day, but it was so much fun celebrating!

Can't believe that was already a month ago. Now that it is Oct 25th and as I reflect over this past year, there have been times of pain & sadness, but there have also been times of overwhelming joy because of God's amazing blessings. Watch for a post soon with more details.

Take a moment to reflect on God's blessings in your life—you may actually be surprised at how many He has sent your way! There is no better way to create a positive day, than to praise God for His goodness to you!

Headache—a blessing. Really?

Last night my headache started to increase in intensity. I did all my normal tricks to lower it, but nothing worked. This morning, I was hoping it would be back to its normal level, but it's still intense. Trying to get ready, so I can run a few errands today, is somewhat hindered by the headache.

As I was reclining on the Daybed resting, I realized that my headache even is a blessing. Really? Yes. Since my headache is more intense, the TV and radio are turned off. Usually, I have one or the other on—my brain usually functions better when there is "noise". However, today, it's quiet and that has allowed me to realize more blessings God has given me.

Here are some blessings

which God has provided—

if I didn't have a headache!

My apartment building. It's very quiet. I don't hear my neighbors, and since I'm in the building furthest from the main street, I don't hear much traffic.
My apartment. Being on the 2nd floor makes me at "tree top level". The birds enjoy sitting on the trees right outside my windows. The songs the birds sing keep Max and me company and are reminders of God's creative hand.
The stillness. God says, “Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NASB) When I'm "forced" to be still or "cease striving" I am able to spend quality time with God—meditating on His Word and talking with Him.
Better days. Living with chronic pain is at times overwhelming. Yet, when I have a "worse day", it makes me more thankful for my "normal" pain level days. I'm thankful that God knows what I can endure and gives me strength for each day—whether it is a "normal" or "worse" day.
God's attention to detail. As a "detail" person myself, I love how God takes care of each and every detail. I've posted before about how God makes sure Max is aware of my headache and pain levels. Yesterday, Max woke up "talking and chatting" and it lasted much of the day. However, today, Max woke up and said a few "happys" and has been quiet since. Today, is also the day I see my Chiropractor. His treatments often help lower my headache intensity. So, what better day to have a "bad headache" (although I've never had a 'good' headache), then on a day I see my Chiropractor? God's timing is perfect.
Prayerful friends. It's so comforting to know that no matter my headache or pain level, friends are talking with God about me. It's so cool to realize that the Creator of all things, is hearing MY NAME! And God knows exactly who I am. WOW!

Can a headache be a blessing. Yes! It's all a matter of perspective. And since I want to create a positive day—even with a bad headache—I can find many blessings surrounding me.

Max Calculating—a special blessing!

One of today's blessing is God's gift of Max. God made sure that Max is very aware of me. Max knows when my headache is bad & will simply sit quietly on my shoulder. If my pain level is high, Max will "talk" & do silly things to distract me & make me laugh.

Only God would think of giving me a little bird to remind me of God's constant love & care. God is so amazing!

On the days when I have a harder time creating a positive day, God sends His love and blessings to help me along.

Annual Blessings Celebration!

Each year near the anniversary of my back injury, I have a "Blessings Celebration". This year, I'm beginning my celebration a little early. Today, a friend and I are going to enjoy lunch and see a musical (more details to come).

As I was reading Psalms this morning, I thought these verses were perfect to begin my "Blessings Celebration".

Psalm 105:1-5 The Message (MSG)

    Hallelujah! Thank God! Pray to Him by name!
      Tell everyone you meet what He has done!
   Sing Him songs, belt out hymns,
      translate His wonders into music!
   Honor His holy name with Hallelujahs,
      you who seek God. Live a happy life!
   Keep your eyes open for God, watch for His works;
      be alert for signs of His presence.
   Remember the world of wonders He has made,

His miracles, and the verdicts He's rendered.

I'd like to challenge you to "keep your eyes open for God and watch for His works and be alert for signs of His presence". God is awesome!

What can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me? I'll lift high the cup of salvation—a toast to God! I'll pray in the name of God; I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, & I'll do it together with his people....Oh, God, here I am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service! I'm ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice & pray in the name of God. I'll complete what I promised God I'd do.....Hallelujah! Psalm 116:12-19 (The Message)

The other day I was reviewing the blessings God gave me during the month of August. WOW! I'm so amazed with all the blessings that God continues to send my way. The two highlights from August's blessings were my Joy-cation with very dear friends in Michigan, and the new car. Both of these blessings are multiplying blessings! Each day I'm grateful for the wonderful godly friends God has provided and the new car is not only fun to drive, but provides safe transportation.

As I read Psalm 116, it made me once again realize that with blessings come responsibilities. I am to be praising God and sharing His love with each and every person with whom I have contact. God has used the new car to provide many opportunities to share about God's goodness. It's so much fun sharing what God did to make the new car purchase possible. I'm overwhelmed at His goodness to me.

October is just around the corner, and I'm preparing for my yearly "Blessings Celebration". (Each year near the anniversary of my back injury, I take time to celebrate all the wonderful blessings God gave me during the year.) Not sure yet, what I'll do this year. It's always fun to see what God works out for the celebration. The past few years, the Celebrations have been filled with wonderful gifts from God. (If you look at the blog posts dated in October near the 25th you can read the previous years' celebrations.)

Some continue to wonder how I can celebrate and rejoice when I live with chronic pain. My response, "How can I not?" Pain is part of my life. It's always there. However, just because the pain is there, doesn't mean I have to allow it to totally rule my thoughts and emotions. Pain has too much control in my life as it is (preventing/limiting me from doing some things),—why would I want pain to have TOTAL control?

In October 2000, God introduced pain into my life. And over the past 11 years, I've seen how God has used the pain to open doors for me to share His love with others. Pain has allowed me access to people whom I never would have had contact. Would I have chosen pain? No! However, I made a commitment to God in college—"I would be WHATEVER God wanted me to be, WHEREVER He wanted me to go." I realized that as a servant of God, I was to give my life to Him so that I could accomplish His will for my life.

Just as it says in Psalm 116, I want to complete the promise I made to God and be His faithful servant. The past 11 years has been difficult as I've learned to live with chronic pain and adjust to a new way of life. But it's been filled with God's wonderful blessings!

What can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me? One thing which I can do is continue to praise God for His goodness and that is the key to creating a positive day.

I'm very tired tonight, however, I'm so overwhelmed with joy that I can't sleep. I just keep thinking through all the details God took care of in providing the new car–a 2012 Ford Fiesta.

1. Back on June 11, 2011, I posted about My Plans vs God's Plan. I was working very hard at getting together a down payment for a newer car, and I was very close. Then it happened, I had to put more money into my old car—new brakes. At the time I didn't understand why God would want to "waste money" in fixing the old car—He knew I was planning on getting a newer car.

But no detail escapes God. God knew very well, that He had something FAR GREATER planned than just a "newer" car. He wanted to delay my purchase because He had a NEW car which wasn't even built yet—but would be ready at the PERFECT time.

2. In my search for a newer car, I went online. That seems to be the way to shop these days. I created my "search parameters" on one dealership known for their deals on used cars. Since I bought my Escort from Friendly Ford, I thought I'd contact them too. Over the next few months, I received daily email updates from the Used dealership with cars that matched my parameters. I also received a few phone calls and a few emails from Friendly Ford.

As I worked back an forth online/phone calls, I realized that I was much more at peace when dealing with Friendly, compared to the other place. God gives peace. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 So, my first stop was Friendly Ford.

3. I had planned to wait a few more months before actually shopping for a newer car. However, I thought my car had developed another problem. I either had to get things fixed, or get a newer car. So, off to Friendly Ford I went. Looked at several used cars, but nothing I really liked. Then my friend who was with me (it's always more fun to shop with a friend!), asked about the price of a new car. Mark said it would be possible. So, we went back inside to see what might work. I sat in the Focus, which was very nice, but the price was too high. What about the Fiesta? Would have to sit in it, to make sure it would be comfortable for my back. However, they didn't have any in stock. (In fact no dealer in the area did!) Yet there was a rental that would be back in a day or so, I could test drive that. I went back for the test drive and it was perfect. The seat reclines enough and plenty of room for me. Yes, I like this car.

A 2012 Fiesta was due in to the showroom in a few days. They'd hold it for me. It would be Violet Gray. Uggg a PURPLE car??? I'm not a purple person. But if I didn't like it, then I could wait until the next batch of cars came—perhaps near December.

Received a call on Monday, Aug 22nd the Fiesta had arrived and would be ready to see on Tuesday, Aug. 23rd. Tuesday morning I was talking with God about a "purple car". I really couldn't see myself in a purple car, but God knows what I like and don't like, He created me! Just as I was discussing this with God I received an email. It was advertising a new shirt: "Real Men Wear Purple" (w/a Purple Heart). It's a shirt honoring the brave Soldiers who have been wounded or killed while serving our Country. Now, I in no way have gone through what those brave Soldiers have! But I think it was God's way of saying, "Hey Rhonda, you have been wounded and have served me faithfully, so I'll give you a "purple heart car". Seeing the "purple heart car" each day would be a great reminder that I have a job to do for God—I'm to be serving Him, and giving Him my all. Maybe having a purple car wouldn't be so bad after all!

4. On August 22, 2011, I posted Details. I was trying to figure a way to reach the down payment necessary to get the best financing. Things weren't going as I had planned. A few days ago, I had found some old coins and I got them appraised this morning. Did God want me to sell them. As I prayed about it. I had no peace in selling the coins. So, I thought back over the budget and when bills would be due. After crunching the numbers, I learned that yes, I could meet the down payment. Still not sure how that all worked out! All I can say is that God made sure the money was in the bank. He definitely took care of all the details in this area.
Since I am financing the car, I was a bit concerned about the rate. Oh I have great credit, so I wasn't worried about that. It was my income amount which might be a problem. Being on disability does limit the inflow of money. However, God continues to watch over my expenses to make sure each bill is paid. God provided a GREAT rate, even lower than I had thought I'd receive. God doesn't miss a single detail!

5. On August 18, 2011, I posted God-thing, not a Rhonda-thing. "The desires of good people lead straight to the best" Proverbs 11:23a (The Message). Over the past few months I've researched used cars. Even today, I went to a place and checked out their inventory of used cars. One car I looked at, had a detail which I really liked—an arm rest for the drivers right arm. That made sitting so comfortable for me. As I sat in the car I thought over the price/payments, the age of the car, the mileage—no this would not be a wise use of my money—but sure did like that arm rest.

Tonight when I arrived at Friendly Ford to see the Fiesta (it just arrived from the factory the day before!), I liked the color—Violet Grey and all the aspects of the car. It wasn't until on the way home, that I realized that God had a surprise for me! The Fiesta also has an arm rest for the drivers right arm!! Not sure if I just missed that on the test drive of the other Fiesta, or that particular model didn't have it. Doesn't matter–God made sure it was on the specific car He had for me! I'd say, that God led me to the BEST car!

The Details. It's all the details. I'm sure as I think back over the past few months, I'll begin to see even more details which God dealt with regarding this car. All I can say is that my God takes awesome care of me! And that folks, makes each and every day a very positive day!

Details. I tend to like details—when I can be in control of them. However, when it's a "hands off" situation, I have a tough time sitting back and letting go. God is using my newer car search to teach me that I have to relinquish all the details to Him. He after all, is the Creator and He is the Master of details.

As I work on the details for buying a newer car—just when I think a detail is taken care of and I can cross it off my list—I learn that it is NOT done. Most often when I think a detail is done, it is me getting ahead of God and thinking I know with how the details should be dealt.

One aspect of getting a newer car is selling my old car. I thought I had a buyer. However, it doesn't look like that will happen. Just as I was getting frustrated, God led me to another place that may buy my car. Will check with them this week.

Since I may not get the amount for my old car as I had planned, I was beginning to fret on how I'd meet the necessary down payment.

But God had something waiting for me!

I went to get the car title out of the safe, and came across some coins. One very special coin, I knew was there—at this point, I plan to keep that one.

But the other coins, I had forgotten about them. I've had them for over 7 years. Does God want me to sell the coins at this point? I have no idea. However, I will take them to a dealer and see what I can get. The coins won't provide the total amount I need, but God knows that too. Perhaps this is how God wants to help meet my need this time. As I've said before, God is VERY creative!

Throughout the Bible God tells us that He will take care of things. We are not to worry. As I said, I like details. However, my attention is NOT to be on the details—rather, my attention is to be on what God is doing! My job is to be a good steward of His provisions, follow His leading, and let Him take care of all the details.

"Give your entire attention

to what God is doing right now,

and don't get worked up

about what may or may not happen tomorrow.

God will help you deal with

whatever hard things come up

when the time comes."

This week, I went car shopping. Test drove one car, which I do like. There are so many details that need to be sorted out.

Just of few of the details include:

1. How much can I get for my old car?

Need this to help increase my down payment.

2. Can I get the necessary financing at a good rate?

3. Do I like the color?

This is really important. ;>)

I think the hard part in all this is that so much is "out of my control". There is only so much I can do in each area, and there are many details that other people control.

God continues to teach me. My goal in purchasing a newer car is to be a good steward of the resources God provides. There are some details which I MUST leave with God. I don't know what the future holds. God does.

The day I went car shopping, I read this verse:

"The desires of good people

lead straight to the best"

Proverbs 11:23a (The Message).

Looking back to when I purchased my 1995 Ford Escort, I can see how God directed me to the right car which would be the BEST for me, especially the past 10 years with my disability. When I was considering which car to buy back in 1995, I almost bought a 2-door Mustang! That would have made getting in and out, and driving much more difficult with my back injury. God made sure I wasn't caught up with the "look" and idea of having a Mustang, and bought the more "sensible" Escort.

Since God never changes, the same God who helped me buy the BEST car in June 1995, will be there to help me buy the BEST car in 2011. Please continue to pray with me as I move forward with buying a newer car. I want to make sure this is a "God-thing" and not a "Rhonda-thing".

And if the details don't work out for me to get a car now, I will continue to trust God as He provides to keep the old car working. God isn't limited by old or new cars. He takes care of each of my needs in His way, in His time. If He wants me to continue driving my Escort, then He'll keep it running. And if He wants me to drive a newer car, He will work out all the details to make that possible.

If I allow the details to overwhelm me, I'll lose focus and my thoughts will be anything but positive. Yet, if I continue to keep my focus on God and what He is doing and His leading, then my thoughts and attitude will be positive. Creating a positive day is allowing God to control all the details.

Last week I had planned to buy ink for my computer. However, I had forgotten my rebate coupon, so I waited until this week. As I was looking through the store's ad, something caught my eye—this week, I'll get $6 back on each old ink cartridge rather than the usual $2. That's an extra $4 on each cartridge!

$4 x 4 = $16.

Once again God used an object lesson to remind me that He will take care of each and every need I have. On Saturday, June 11, 2011 I posted My PlanS vs God's Plan regarding buying a newer car. This past week, my car developed a new leak. So, I have a decision to make—spend the money to fix the old car, or buy a newer car now.

It's times like this, that I'd like to open my Bible and read, "Rhonda, today you will do this...." and have the details spelled out simply and plainly. However, that's not how God works. God does however, give me the wisdom and knowledge to make the right decisions—if I seek Him and His will.

This week, God once again demonstrated that He is able to provide in unique ways. Whether it be $16 saved on ink, or the money for a newer car. My responsibility is to be a good steward of the money God provides. When I first bought my current car in June 1995, I realized that it was not MY car—but God's car. Over the past 16 years, God has provided a great bunch of guys to fix my car at Roselle Tire and Auto, and God has provided the money to keep the car running.

If God wants to spend more money to fix this car, He'll supply that too. And if He thinks it's time to buy a newer car, He'll supply that money too. How? I have no idea. However, this week, God supplied $16 with the ink deal.

To God it doesn't matter

if it's $16 or $26,000.

God's resources are endless.

I'm thankful that God continues to teach me using object lessons. I usually remember lessons longer when I'm "shown" rather than just told. Guess, God knows that too!

Remembering that God is caring for my needs,

sure creates many reasons for a positive day!

Joy-cation!

The new catch-phrase heard often in Summer is “stay-cation”. Many people are changing their ideas of vacations due to finances. People are having fun doing simple activities all from their home. People are returning to the simple things in life. This got me thinking, if those people enjoying “stay-cations” can change their vacation plans—I can too! I’m calling mine a “joy-cation”.

What’s a “joy-cation”?

This Summer, I was able to take my first vacation since my back injury. As I was packing for the trip, there was one thing which I didn’t want to pack—my pain. If only I could turn off my pain for a week. That would be refreshing. However, rather than shutting off my pain for the week, I had to prepare for more pain. Every movement I make increases my pain. So, I knew that during my vacation my pain would increase.

Living with an invisible illness or chronic pain makes one change their lifestyle. There are activities which illness and/or pain prevent one from doing. I have worked hard making sure that my pain doesn’t prevent me from enjoying life on a daily basis.

So what if a vacation doesn’t include body surfing in the ocean, or attending sporting events, or concerts—that’s okay! I can enjoy a wonderful vacation with friends doing simple things, such as enjoying a lemon sorbet on a hot summer day. Or spending the evening watching a DVD enjoying popcorn and laughing with friends.

When living with an illness or pain, one must learn to rethink how to enjoy life and have fun. Don’t waste time grieving the past activities that can’t be done anymore. Rather, look for new activities which can be done!

My “joy-cation”

has been just that—a JOY!

Just because I live with chronic pain and headaches, doesn’t mean that I can’t have a wonderful time and break in my normal routine. I’d highly recommend that you begin planning your “joy-cation” ASAP!

Whether I'm on a "joy-cation" or just going through the normal routine at home—I'm learning that God provides joy and blessings each and every day. Noticing those blessings and relishing the joy, sure helps create a positive day!

God's perfect placement

Once again God had some surprises

for me as I ran errands this past week.

I have been looking for new dress pants for a while, with no luck. On Tuesday, I stopped at Kohl's and looked around—nothing. On the way home from my Chiropractor's, I stopped at the Goodwill and looked through their racks of dress pants. Found a few I thought would work. I went to try them on and I asked the Sales Associate if I could use the handicap fitting room—which I normally don't use. However, trying to maneuver with crutches in the smaller rooms can be a challenge on a good day—and my pain level was a bit higher, so I asked to use the larger room.

I tried on the pants I had found—with no luck. As I was hanging the "unwanteds" on the rack—which is RIGHT OUTSIDE the handicap fitting room door—I saw a pair of navy blue dress pants on the rack. I checked the size, yep, that was right. Tried them on and they fit PERFECTLY!

God had the pants hanging RIGHT outside the handicap fitting room door waiting for me! God's placement was PERFECT! I couldn't miss the pants—they were hanging right on the end—almost falling off into my hands (literally!). So for $4.99 I got a very nice pair of dress pants.

After leaving the Goodwill, I stopped at Fruitful Yield health store to pick up Sunshine Burgers. As I walked in the store, one of the workers welcomed me and asked if I was there for more Sunshine Burgers—"Yes, I was!" The Manager was standing near by and said, "We have coupons for those". So, I saved $5.00 on the Sunshine Burgers—the cost of my dress pants! ;>)

God is good all the time!

I love it when God does little things—

God's answer to my Mom's prayer

Yes, it happened AGAIN...I won another contest. I won a FedEx Cup Ultimate Spectator Kit. I found winning this contest even more special, when I told my Mom I had won. She replied, "I had been asking God to send you something very special." That made it very clear why I won. God chose to answer my Mom's prayer by way of this contest. He is so creative.

I'm grateful for a Mom and Dad, who pray for me. That is a great blessing. And knowing that my parents are praying for me is a wonderful positive thought for any day.

"Bad" things—from whose perspective?

When "bad" things happen,

we in our limited understanding

can't imagine why a God of mercy and grace

would allow such a thing.

In my devotions, I'm studying the Book of Job. Job 4 and 5 cover Eliphaz's advice to Job. If you just read Eliphaz's words on their own, they seem to make perfect sense. In Job 4:1-4, Eliphaz describes what others thought of Job. I found this part interesting since it gives us a glimpse of Job from the human stand point—before Job lost his wealth, family, and health. (In Job 1:8 we read God's view of Job: "There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”) Eliphaz described Job as a teacher and encourager. Job provided hope and guidance to others. (Personally, I think teaching and encouraging should be a natural outcome of fearing God.)

However, after Job 1:4, Eliphaz begins to offer "advice" based on his opinions rather than based on God and God's character. Eliphaz admonishes Job—Job can "dish out advise and encouragement to others, but when Job is in a situation, Job can't deal with it". Then Eliphaz continues to share how only sinners and fools would have such calamity in their lives.

In Job 5, Eliphaz shares his "observations of life". The only problem with basing our faith on observations is—personal observations are not always accurate! For we see things through our human eyes, experiences, and understanding—which are all limited—we are after all human! How can a mere human understand the workings of an unlimited and all-knowing God? This is where we need to take a step back and allow God to work, trusting Him and acknowledging that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always designed to accomplish His purpose.

I can't say that I've endured what Job had to endure. But I have had to deal with pain—both physical (chronic pain and headaches) and emotional (the death of my sister). I've had many people tell me over the past 10 years, that God won't heal me because I have sin in my life—exactly what Eliphaz was telling Job. Yes, I do sin. However, because of God's grace and mercy, He forgives my sins (1 John 1:9).

There are times, like in Job's situation, that God allows "bad things" in our lives to accomplish His purpose—bringing glory to Himself. Just as in Job's situation. God had a much bigger plan in mind—one Job didn't know about. Yet, Job continued to trust God.

Job knew that no matter what happened to him personally, God is worthy of praise and honor. We don't choose to praise and worship God based on our circumstances, rather it's based on Who God is. And God does not change.

If I want to create a positive day, I have to look beyond my limited human understanding and trust God to accomplish His purpose. Knowing that God is at work, is the most comforting and positive concept which I can comprehend.

My Plans Vs God's Plan

I'm a planner. Before doing anything I research, and research, and plan, and figure out all the possible solutions, and even try to account for all the "unexpecteds" that might pop-up along the way.

However, I'm learning that no matter what MY PLANS are, God's PLAN is a much better one! My planS (yes, plural) are often VERY good. However, God's PLAN (singular) is MUCH better than any of my plans. This is one lesson which God has to continue to teach me.

My car, a 1995 Ford Escort, needs to be replaced. It's a great car, but it's at the point that repairs are needed more often than I like. I've been working on my plans to get a newer car for while. Yet, it's only been the past 2 months when I thought that perhaps I could actually do something about it. I have been working on saving every penny toward a down payment.

PERFECTLY!

That was until God reminded me that HE has a PLAN. This past week, I took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation and to check on a "roar". I explained to the Service Manager, Mike, that I didn't want to put much money into any repairs as I am looking to get a newer car. We discussed various cars models which would be good for me to consider.

After waiting a while, Mike approached me. He explained what the "roar" was and that it didn't have to be fixed. However, the brakes were extremely bad. It was not safe to drive the car, I'd have to replace them. Okay, now that was NOT in my plans at ALL! Yet, I had to take a deep breath and realize that the brake repair was in God's plan.

As I was at home waiting for my car to be fixed, I had time to think. I had to stop and thank God for His protection. The brakes were not safe, yet, God made sure that they worked as I drove around. God prompted me to go in for an oil change ASAP, so that the brake problem would be found. And over 15 years ago, God provided an AWESOME repair shop with an owner and staff who are honest and have taken great care of my car.

My planS vs God's plan.

No matter how much I research and think through all the possible scenarios, there are unforeseen circumstances which God allows. I'm not sure I understand all the reasons God wanted me to spend money on fixing a car when I'm trying to get a newer one. Yet, I do KNOW that God's plan is so much better than mine. And I don't need to know all the reasons why He does what He does. I only need to trust Him and continue to seek His will and follow HIS PLAN for my life.

And what about MY planS for a newer car? I'm still working on them, but I'm also making sure that I consult God on what HIS PLAN is. I'll keep you posted!

Once again, I'm reminded that in order to have a positive day, I need to trust God as He carries out His plan for my life.

Not Just One Dinner, but Several!

One of my neighbors was moving back to India. Before she moved away, she wanted to treat me to an authentic Indian meal. I do enjoy a variety of ethnic foods, and Indian is one of my favorites. We decided that she'd bring the meal by the following Monday. Not knowing what she'd bring, and if it would fit my vegan, gluten-free diet, I did go ahead and eat dinner. I figured if she brought something I could eat, it would make a nice lunch for the following day. Well, when the clock hit 11:00 pm, I figured that with all the details of moving, she forgot about my dinner.

I wasn't upset that she forgot. I fully understood the huge job of preparing to move back to India. But I was now craving Indian food! I've tried to cook Indian meals in the past, but they never turned out right. Not sure if it was my cooking methods or the spices (never had all I needed). There is a wonderful Indian restaurant near by, however, most of their dishes include milk and or gluten. As each day passed, the craving for Indian food grew, and I had to check my attitude too—frustration over something which I had no control would not create Indian food!

One of my adopted Soldiers (www.SoldiersAngels.org) is a vegetarian and as I was shopping for food for her box, I found a WONDERFUL surprise! Pre-packaged Indian food that is vegan & gluten free! I know, who would have guessed?

So, instead of getting

just one meal—

I now have several Indian meals

in my pantry!

All I have to do is heat and serve.

As I was thinking back over the past few days, I got to thinking of situations in our lives—some in which we find ourselves, we've created. Other situations are created by others or various circumstances.

Once again, I learned that

my attitude determines

if a situation will be "bad" or "good".

If I had allowed my attitude to turn to frustration that the neighbor forgot my dinner, bitterness would have turned me off to Indian food. Thus, I would have missed finding new items for my diet. Yet, by having a positive attitude and not having a pity party on missing the dinner, I was excited when I found the new meals.

I hope next time I find myself in a "less than pleasant" situation, I remember the blessing of Indian food.

Perhaps I can't change the situation,

but I can change my attitude!

And having a positive attitude

makes for a very positive day!

It has been a while since I wrote on my blog. I thought I'd take time to update you on what has been happening.

I continue with my Vegan, gluten-free diet. It's challenging at times, but I continue to find new items at various stores to keep menus interesting and nutritious.

My chiropractor found some supplements to help with the muscle spasms and headaches. My pain level remains high, and I continue to discuss options with my doctors. It may be that I'll have to go back on some type of medication to lower the pain.

The spinal stimulator is "just an implant" at this point. Due to the battery (IPG) issues and the wiring shorts the stimulator can't be used. My pain management doctor and I have discussed what would need to be done to correct the problems. The only solution is to remove the entire stimulator (paddle, wiring, and IPG) and insert another one. At this point, I'm not ready to go through that surgery. That's not to say, I'll have the surgery in the future. I do miss the stimulator as it did help with the leg pain.

In some of my past posts I mentioned my sister and her battle with cancer. The Lord Jesus Christ called her home to Heaven on April 13, 2011. God gave us almost 4 years with Lori, after her first diagnosis. We all miss Lori very much. However, we know that she is worshiping and praising our Heavenly Father and is now living pain free.

Max, my parakeet, has learned a new word. I have no idea what it means or where he picked it up. But he likes the sound of it, because he says it constantly! His new word is "burpy". He mixes it with "happy", "pretty", "bird" and all his other sounds. It sounds funny...so that makes me laugh.

God continues to supply my needs

(and some wants) in amazing ways.

Here are a few from the past few weeks.

It was time to buy a new printer. I use my printer to make digital scrapbook cards and print projects for my friends. My old printer served me well and was OVERUSED! God provided a wonderful printer by way of a sale ($100 less!), a discount for trading in my old printer ($50). The new printer is amazing and allows me to even print larger images which will help with my friends' projects.

I was having a "high pain" day and needed to run some errands. I figured I'd start out and see what I could accomplish and see what special blessings God had for me. God had some amazing surprises waiting for me! One of my Soldiers (adopted through www.SoldiersAngels.org) requested some gummies candy. I found some large bags on sale! Having some extra time after some errands, before my chiro appt, I stopped for lunch. And they gave a FREE lunch! That was an awesome surprise—and was YUMMMY! My last errand was grocery shopping. Not only did God have some special deals for me, but He supplied some new organic frozen veggies.

One of my Soldiers requested books, magazines, and CDs. I stopped by "Half-Price Books" to see what I could find. And once again God had another surprise for me—they are having an additional 20% off sale!

Even though my pain level

remained high, my PRAISE level was HIGHER!

It's always fun to find God's special blessing "hiding" for me as I go about my day. Those special blessings are great reminders that God loves me and cares greatly for me. He knows all the details of my life—including the pain level and needs and yes, even the wants.

Just the thought

that God, the Creator of all,

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.
Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see." "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects

had faced the same adversity:

boiling water.

Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

May we all be COFFEE!

My Psalm 63

For Bible Study this week, I was to study and re-write Psalm 63 as it would relate to me. Here's what I wrote:

My God. That personal relationship with You creates a painstaking earnest craving to know You. I’m alone and utterly exhausted. God, You are the All-Mighty One. You are Strength.
My first impression each morning needs to be of You, so that Your passions and ambitions will be mine—impacting every area of my life throughout the day.
Knowing the joy of being in Your Presence is overwhelmingly satisfying.
However, I still wander away and then the loneliness and weakness engulfs me. I then find myself longing to return to Your Presence.
In the midst of affliction, I can confidently praise You, my God, because Your mercy is greater than anything I may encounter. I will enjoy your kindness for all eternity.
Because of Who You are, I submit to You with the respect due You.
During those long night of tossing and turning, I will be calmed as I meditate on You and Your Word. You have come to my aid numerous times, and resting safely in Your protection, I praise You. Like glue, I cling to You, yet meanwhile, You are holding me tight.
I need to remember that those who try to discourage me and distract me from You, are just carcasses, left for the scavengers, to devour. You, are the One-True-God, and those who worship idols will one day be silenced as they too bow before the King of Glory.

There are a few aspects of my psalm which really hit home to me, especially the past few weeks.

The first truth is the concept of being alone and utterly exhausted. That's the meaning of the wilderness/desert David described in Psalm 63. I'm sure we each have things in our lives which make us feel "alone and utterly exhausted". There are many days which my pain creates a wilderness of overwhelming exhaustion—BUT (I love "BUTs"!)... BUT, God is the ALL-MIGHTY One. He is STRENGTH.

Although, it seems like I'm alone in the desert,

God is right there and He is my Strength.

WOW!

The second and third aspects of the psalm are that my first thoughts each morning need to be of my Heavenly Father, and that mediating on God during those long nights of tossing and turning will bring calm. I live with chronic pain, so there are MANY LONG nights of tossing and turning and my first thought each morning is usually—"OUCH". However, I noticed something recently which has changed my thoughts throughout the night and first thing in the morning. On February 6th, I made the commitment to memorize the Book of James. The more I worked on memorizing it, I found that when I awoke either during the night or in the morning, I found my mind quoting verses from James.

It is so refreshing to awake to God's Word

—oh, believe me the "OUCH" is still there,

but God's Word shouts louder!

The fourth aspect is that God's mercy is greater than any affliction I may encounter. Stop for a moment and reflect on that thought—God's mercy is greater than ANY affliction I may encounter! WOW!

The last aspect is that "God is holding me tight!" What a sense of security to know that God is loving me and protecting me—He is holding me tight.

There isn't any more comforting place to be

than being held tight by God.

The more I get to know my Heavenly Father through studying His Word, the more impact His Word will have in my life. The more impact His Word has, the more positive each day will be.

A daughter who looks like her Father

In my last post, Psalm 119: What God's Word Provides Me, I wrote about what I learned from my Bible Study based on Damaris Carbaugh's Live In Your Word.

For that Bible Study, I also had to write, a statement to God about my desire to be in His Word. Here is my statement.

God, You are my Redeemer. Because of your mercy and grace, I can call you Father. My responsibility and desire as a daughter, is to hear and understand Your Word. You have provided wisdom, instruction—everything I need to live a full and fulfilling life.
If I ignore, Your wisdom, I have only myself to blame as I miss out on Your blessings. If I find myself floundering, it is due to the fact that I’ve ignored Your Word. If I make wrong decisions, I’ll live with the consequences, knowing full well that things would have been different—if I had obeyed Your Word. As I look back, I see Your patience and grace, as You waited for me to return to Your Word and seek You.
I need to make studying Your Word a priority in my life. Just as I eat food each day—for survival, Your Word is vital to my life. Therefore, studying Your Word must be first and foremost in my life. Studying your Word must become routine—however, the message itself must never be routine or taken for granted. Your Word has the power to change me into a daughter who “looks like her Father”. And that is my desire—which I will work toward with strong determination.

If I want to create a positive day, I must have a strong foundation in God's Word.

As I studied Psalm 119, I learned that God's Word provides everything I need. It's up to me to read and study the Bible. Each day that I allow God's Word to work in me, is a positive day!

God's Grace

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Just finished a Bible Study on God's Grace. Learned some amazing things, however, one thing which stood out to me was the verse above.

As I did some word studies on 2 Corinthians 12:9, here is what I learned.

He has said: originally, “lay down to sleep,” used of laying an argument to rest, moving to a conclusion
sufficient: be content, be enough, suffice,
power: ability to perform; power through God’s ability
perfected: reaching the end (aim); it is well-illustrated with the old pirate’s telescope, unfolding (extending out) one stage at a time to function at full-strength (capacity effectiveness); reaching the capacity effectiveness
weakness: without strength; refers to an ailment that deprives someone of enjoying or accomplishing what they would like to do, focuses on the handicaps that go with the weakness
may dwell: to dwell in a pitched tent; to pitch (live in) a tent (residence!)

Here's my translation of the verse:

God ended all questioning or arguments. Nothing more needs to be said, period—His grace is enough so that I can be content. God is the source of power which allows me to reach true and full effectiveness through my weakness (and all it keeps me from doing); so that God's ability will take up residence within me.

Living with chronic pain, I fully understand "weakness". However, as I studied the meaning of that word, I learned it meant more than "without strength". It takes into account all handicaps that go with my weakness. God fully understands that when there is weakness, there are things which can't be done.

However, God gives me His grace so that I'll be satisfied and content, knowing that God provides all the ability necessary for me to reach my full capacity of effectiveness. WOW!

There are many things which my chronic pain prevents me from doing, however, God's grace and power are much greater than my weakness, and He supplies the power to accomplish His will.

Even with the limits my pain creates, I can still be effective—because of God's power and grace!

My limitations only make God's grace and power more evident, because there is NO WAY I could do it on my own!

As I go about my day, if I continue to rely on God's grace letting His power take up full residence in me, I will create a positive day—as I will be fully effective for Him! WOW!

The Dark Side

We've had a mix of weather lately. There's been snow, rain, freezing rain, and warm temperatures. Guess that's normal for Chicago February/March weather.

The only snow left on the ground are a few melting piles leftover from when the plows cleared the blizzard. The other day, as I was leaving for my chiropractic appointment, I wasn't really paying attention to the parking lot, since it was clear of snow. However, as I approached the driver's side of my car, WHOA, there was a sheet of ice!

The car blocked the sun, creating a 'dark side' and the ice hadn't melted yet. I very carefully, edged my way along the car, to the door and climbed in—all without falling, thankfully.

As I sat in the car for a moment, I looked out on the patch of ice again. It was the length of my car and about 2 feet wide. The sunny side of my car, was clear. However, the 'dark side' was a sheet of dangerous ice.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:19 (NIV)

Often when we think of darkness we think of evil. When we are involved in sin, we want to be hidden, not only from others, but from God. (Although God sees all.) Consider how many crimes are committed in the darkness of night, or masks are worn to "stay in the dark".

However, as I thought more about the ice patch on the 'dark side', I realized that often, I'm not trying to hide from God—really—rather I've just become cold and frozen to doing His will.
Staying on the 'dark side' I don't have to make changes in my life, I won't be responsible for obeying God's Word. The more time I spend reading the Bible, the more truths I learn. And when I learn those truths, I have a responsibility to act on those truths.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105

God's Word is the light (sunshine). And if I allow His Word to work in my heart and life, it melts the ice and coldness of sin and indifference. Rather than living on the 'dark side', I'd want to live in the sunshine of God's Word and grow.

If I want to create a positive day, I have leave the 'dark side' and allow God's light to shine on me and allow God to work in my life.

Happy 9th birthday, Max!

God gave Max to me for my birthday in 2003. Max, even though a little bird, provides many laughs. He is also a great reminder how much God cares for me.

Look at the birds in the sky! They don't plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren't you worth more than bird? Matthew 6:26 (Contemporary English Version)

So, as I celebrate Max's birthday today, I'll also celebrate God's amazing love. And a day that is focused on God's unconditional love for me, is a positive day!

God's Property

In June 1995, I bought a new car. My first NEW car. I think it had 13 miles on it when I bought it—a Ford Escort LX Hatchback. I was so excited to have a NEW car. Although "I bought the car", I knew that it was really God's car. For everything He supplies, belongs to Him; I'm just a steward of His property.

A few weeks ago, I went to see my chiropractor, just as I do each week. Arriving in the town a little early, I stopped to get gas. I still had a few minutes, so decided to take the "scenic route" to his office. As I turned the corner up a side street I lost all power. The car died. I did manage to coast to the side of the road. I tried to start the car again—nothing. It was totally dead.

First, I called my chiropractor's office to let them know that I'd be late. Then I called my Emergency Road-side Service company for a tow. Then I called my good friend, Cathy, who is always ready to help, for a ride home.

The tow truck arrived, I made it to my chiropractor, and then Cathy brought me home. My car was taken to Roselle Tire & Auto—the "guys" have taken care of my car since I bought it. The problem included a few broken belts, water pump, and a couple of other necessary parts needed replacement.

When I arrived home, I was so confident I knew how I'd pay for this repair. I'd simply used one of my "credit card checks". The kind with a one-time fee and no interest for 6 months. That would provide some time to pay the repair bill. Well, I went to the file and got the credit card checks out—SURPRISE—they had all expired. Now what? I went through the budget and the money for this repair just wasn't there.

Then I stopped and realized, that I was trying to take care of this bill on my own terms. Did I ask God what HE wanted me to do? It is after all HIS CAR, and He will take care of all the details, that includes repair bills.

So, I stopped and did some talking with God. I decided that since God was now taking care of the repair bill, I'd do some straightening up around the apartment. With my current pain level, I can only do a little cleaning at one time. I was just getting to a breaking point, and decided that I'd move one more small box of items. As I lifted the box—SURPRISE! There sat a set of credit card checks, good for another few weeks.

How they ended up there, I have NO idea—well, okay I put them there—but why? I'm usually so very careful with those checks making sure they are in the file, or shredded. However, God used this "misplacement" to remind me that even if I think I know what He wants me to do, I have to stop and ask Him.

Another example of:

"What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Matt 6:31-33 (The Message)

This experience reminded me that God doesn't always take care of me the same way each time. Just because in the past, I've used the credit card checks to pay for repair bills, doesn't mean that I don't have to consult God on a new bill. Yes, God did use the credit card check again. However, He had to make sure I knew that this was HIS way to pay for this bill, not mine.

This was a great lesson to teach me to ALWAYS consult God in ALL matters. Whether it be a car repair bill or something more minor or yes, even something larger. I don't have to worry about missing out, I'll find that all my everyday human concerns will be met.

Focusing on that truth will make a very positive day—don't you think?

Each of us need to remember WHO God is. He is greater than we can even comprehend. And yet, the Holy God loves me (and you) so much. He has no reason to love us—He simply does. However, He is also holy. He loves us, but abhors sin. If I want to create a positive day, then I need to remember Who God is and live my life acting on that knowledge.

God is Faithful

Preoccupied with Getting or Respond to God's Giving?

I always find it interesting that there are just as many sales AFTER Christmas as before. We are so "preoccupied with getting". It's returning the gifts because the color is wrong, or because it wasn't really want you wanted, or you decided something bigger, smaller, or whatever, would be better.

"What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Matt 6:31-33 (The Message)

So often we find ourselves preoccupied with what we WANT, that we ignore our needs, or miss out of the gifts God has for us.

Often God has a gift for us

that is greater than we could comprehend.

Need an example? My grills.

God provided a nice small charcoal grill in July 2010. I was so happy! It was small but the food sure tasted great. I was extremely happy just to have a grill, the size didn't really matter.

But God had even

GREATER gifts in store for me.

In Oct 2010, God gave me a HUGE 4-burner grill. This grill was SO LARGE that it didn't fit on my balcony.

Did God make a mistake? He gave me a very small grill, than an EXTRA LARGE grill.

NO, He did NOT make a mistake!

Rather He had a greater plan in mind.

He wanted to give multiple gifts so that I in turn could pass along His gifts! I gave the large grill to friends and they in turn bought me a smaller electric grill. The electric grill is much easier for me to use, since it's higher than my old grill. And I don't have to use charcoal or gas—just plug it in and enjoy!

So, instead of ONE grill,

God gave me THREE—

small, large, and "just right".

I had wanted a grill for several years. I priced them and in fact almost bought one several times. However, each time I considered making the purchase, I knew that spending the money on a grill was not the wisest thing to do. I had to change my thinking from being preoccupied with getting and allow God to GIVE, in His time in His Way.

As I look back over the past few months and how God worked out all the grill details, I am so thankful that I allowed God to give me His gifts. If I had purchased a grill, I would have missed out on so much, not to mention my friends wouldn't have been blessed with their new grill.

This year (and beyond), I want to continue to evaluate my motives and my desires.

Am I preoccupied with getting?

Or am I focused on God-reality,

God-initiative, God-provisions?

If I focus my thoughts and actions on God and His will for me, He'll supply my needs in His time and in His way. And often He gives some unique and wonderful gifts too!

Creating a positive day

is not about focusing

on the things I need or want,

but rather focusing on God

and is loving care for me.

Wonderful Christmas!

It's a wonderful Christmas!

Enjoyed a white Christmas this year. The above picture was taken from my balcony this morning. A beautiful sight to begin the day. Read Luke 1-3 from my new "The Message Bible". And took time to thank God for His gift of salvation.

Opened gifts from family and friends. God has blessed me with some of the most amazing people. I'm very thankful they are part of my life.

For Christmas dinner, I used my NEW ELECTRIC GRILL! It's so easy to use and the food tastes GREAT! The menu consisted of: Grilled and hickory smoked onions, peppers, portabella mushrooms, tomatoes on a Brown rice Pizza crust with homemade pizza sauce. YUM!!!

One thing I enjoy about Max are his "human" antics.

His newest place to sit is on the CD remote next to the phone. But he doesn't just sit there, he "talks" into the phone! He chats and chips, and there are even some "pretty bird" and 'happy" chants. As I watch him, it makes me smile and at times I even giggle.

Hit a Brick Wall

There is a kid's action song, "Going on a Bear Hunt". As you hunt for the bear you face obstacles, such as a tree and a river. "You can't go around it. You can't go under it. You have to climb up/down it or swim across it." It's a cute song, and each obstacle you face on the hunt, is easily overcome.

But what happens in real life when we are faced with an obstacle. We come to the end of our ropes or hit a brick wall. We can't climb over it, we can't go around it. We are stuck. Perhaps you are at that point in your life. You have reached your pain threshold, and you injury something else. Or your finances are stretched so thin you can't possible afford one more item, and there is an emergency, like the car dies.

When we find ourselves facing a brick wall it can be overwhelming. The wall is impenetrable. It looms in front of us and as we stand looking up at the wall, it seems to grow in size. As you stand there, you think it will come crashing down around you, then maybe at least you'd be able to see past the wall as you stand in the midst of chaos.

This week I hit a brick wall. On Thanksgiving Day, I received a "low battery" message on my spinal stimulator IPG (battery pack). And no, you just can't insert a new Duracell battery. It takes surgery to replace the unit.

Yesterday, I saw my pain management doctor to have the IPG (battery) checked. After running a few tests and talking with tech support, we learned some information. I have a broken link on the paddle that sits on my spinal cord. Right now, it's not a big concern, we'll just watch it.

As for the IPG (battery) there seemed to be more questions than answers. The plan for now is to "override" the low battery message and see if it will keep working. I left the office with a plan. Later last night, I had additional trouble with the IPG and received new error codes—my wall was growing brick by brick.

The uncertainty of what is happening with the IPG is my brick wall. Why am I getting the error messages? Am I looking at surgery #9? Does the stimulator provide enough relief to warrant the risk and cost of additional surgeries? The unknowns continue to add layers of bricks to my wall.

This week in my Bible Study, I was to study Psalm 8 and rewrite it in my words. Here is what I wrote:

Jehovah, the Lord, You are powerful—excellent, famous, gallant, glorious, goodly, mighty, noble, and worthy. Everything in nature knows your majesty, even the tiniest baby displays your glory.
As I look upward to the vastness of the universe I am humbled and so thankful that You, God, are very aware of each and every detail in my life. It’s comforting to know that You are not surprised by anything happening in my life. You are fully alert—watching, and overseeing each detail.
Everything You’ve made gives You praise and honor, and You chose man to care for it all. As I look upon all that is around me, I too must praise You for You are truly great and worthy of more praise than I can rightly give.

Did you catch the few sentences in the middle?

You, God, are very aware

of each and every detail in my life.

It’s comforting to know that You

are not surprised by anything

happening in my life.

You are fully alert—watching,

and overseeing each detail.

God knew about my "wall" long before I saw it. He hasn't left me without a way to overcome the obstacle. He may help me climb over it, or dig under it, or He may simply take it down brick by brick. The latter may take some time—my brick wall seems VERY LARGE! However, I can't look at the brick wall as an obstacle or hindrance, it has been allowed by God for a purpose. God is FULLY ALERT—watching and overseeing EACH detail.

If I'm standing at a wall,

then it's God who designed

it to be in my life.

And as the Architect,

He knows exactly how to move it.

I'm standing at a wall. What do I do? I have a choice. I can continue staring at the wall and continue to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. OR I can rest in the assurance that God has a plan and when it's time to move forward He will either remove the wall, or help me overcome it.

Maybe it's time to sit down

in the shadow of the wall and

let God do His work.

Some circumstances make creating a positive day harder than others. However, no matter what circumstances I find myself, God is the constant Who does not change. His love is unconditional. He provides peace. He does care.

Even as I face my brick wall, it's possible to create a positive day, if I make that choice. Today, I choose to accept the FACT that God is FULLY ALERT—watching and overseeing EACH detail of my life. And there is comfort in letting God work and design the plan for my life (even if He builds a few walls).

Trusting God in the midst of overwhelming obstacles

is the only way to create a positive day.

1st Vegan Gluten-free Thanksgiving

Yesterday, I enjoyed my first

Vegan Gluten-free Thanksgiving Feast!

And it was delicious.

My menu consisted of the following:

Baked Sweet Potato

Vegan Gluten-free Stuffing (which I made! See picture to the left.)

Vegan Gluten-free Gravy (which I made!)

Salad (lettuce, carrots, celery, cucumbers, peppers, broccoli) w/ lemon juice & fresh ground pepper

Steamed Broccoli

Baked Apples w/Roasted Pecans

Did I miss the Turkey? Actually, no! I thought it would be the hardest part of the day. It sure smelled great, but with all the yummy stuff on my plate, I didn't miss it at all. This was the first real test of my Vegan diet. Since I don't buy meat anymore, I don't have it in the house. But even though the turkey sure smelled great, I wasn't even tempted to have some.

Some have asked, why not just "cheat" a little on a special day like Thanksgiving? Because, if I make excuses one day and cheat, that can begin a pattern of cheating. The goal of eating Vegan and gluten-free is to reduce my pain level. If I start cheating, that just hinders me from reaching my goal.

Will the Vegan Gluten-free diet really lower my pain? It's a wait and see. I've been on the diet for about 15 weeks. I feel better overall, but my pain level remains high. I figure I was on pain medications for 9.5 years, I should give this diet longer than 15 weeks.

So, my first Vegan Gluten-free

Thanksgiving was delicious!

with friends made the day EXTRA special!

Creating a positive day isn't about the food—Vegan, Gluten-free or Turkey and all the trimmings—it's about spending time with those who are special to you.

Thanksgiving is a day we set aside to enjoy LOTS of food, watch some football, and then eat more food. We each have much for which we can be thankful. Friends and family are on the top of all our lists. However, God should be the one to whom we are most grateful.

What 'God songs and stories' will I sing at the top of my lungs today? What wondrous works of God will I share? As I take a moment to read through my past blog posts, I find example after example of God's handiwork in my life. I have many God stories about which I can sing.

Creating a positive day is natural if I am letting my voice of thanksgiving be heard, first to God Himself, then to those around me.

I'm continuing the Bible Study based on Damaris Carbaugh's Not Ashamed CD. This week the study is based on the song, "At the Name of Jesus". One of the questions asks, "What is the most precious name of Jesus to you?"

As I was thinking of which name is most precious to me, I decided to expand the question to include: "Which name of God is most precious to me?" As I was studying the names of God, I received a devotional from In Touch Ministries.

"God is called by a variety of names in the Bible, and each one sheds light on an aspect of His nature. Jesus’ favorite title for Him was Father. Many of God’s names speak of His majestic and lofty attributes that separate Him from mankind, but Father conveys intimacy. Jesus used this name not only because He was God’s Son, but also to help people realize that Jehovah isn’t some unapproachable Deity gazing down on them from a distance. Rather, He is their loving heavenly Father, who cares about them and wants to be involved in their everyday lives."(http://www.intouch.org/magazine/daily-devotional)

That statement was demonstrated to me this week.

I lost my laundry card. Have no idea where. I've searched everywhere. Yet, the card was not to be found. I was mad at myself, because not only did I have money on the card, it was going to cost me more money to replace it. I looked for the card for 5 days, and couldn't wait any longer—the laundry was piling up.

Today, I went to buy a new card and put money on it. On the way to the office I checked my mail. In the mail was a note with a gift from a friend. The gift would help me fill the new card. When I arrived at the office, to buy the new laundry card, the manager greeted me. I explained the situation and she promptly handed me a new card—no charge.

Wow! Even though I did something "dumb"—losing my laundry card—God demonstrated His Fatherly love and took care of the details of supplying a new card. He didn't yell at me for losing the card. He didn't punish me for misplacing the card. He simply, in His kind and loving way, helped me get a new one so that I could do laundry.

God, my Father.

I like the sound of that.

I also like the meaning of that!

God is MY Father who cares about me and WANTS to be involved in my everyday life. That includes the little details such as a laundry card. (God used the laundry card a few months ago to show me He's concerned with the tiniest details of my life. You can read about that here: Relax, I'm taking care of it...Rather YOU!)

Even when things seem to be going wrong, creating a positive day is possible, when I realize that God, my Father, is involved in each and every detail of my day and life.

There is NOTHING happening in my life

which God isn't aware.

God's "P-Pod"

‎ November 10, 2010 marks 16 weeks since I've been off my pain medications. I know... WOW! It hasn't been easy, and not sure it will get any easier. My doctors and I continue to discuss how I'm doing and at what point medications might be needed.

God has used the past 16 weeks to teach me more about Himself and myself. Today, as I read the following quote, God provided a wonderful "P-POD" for me!

"Rejoice in the purpose, not the pain.

God has a plan for what He is allowing

in your life right now. Trust Him."

As I read this.. I couldn't help but reflect on Jeremiah 29:11.

For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Jeremiah 29:11 (Amplified Bible)

Then God gave me this:
Purpose: God has a specific purpose and plan designed to accomplish HIS WILL (not mine).
Pain: This is one means God has chosen to accomplish His purpose in and through me.
Protection: God won't allow more than I can handle, and is allowing only what is needed to accomplish His purpose.
Positive: Knowing that God has a specific purpose, and sets boundaries, I can take refuge in God's protection, and knowing this creates a positive spirit within — and provides peace for my soul.

The 4 Ps are all inclusive. If I focus on just one of the P's, I'll miss the peace and comfort the "pod" provides. When I take the entire "POD" that's when God can fully accomplish His will—and my soul is at peace.

If I want to create a positive day,

I MUST focus on the entire P-Pod.

Max Makes Me Laugh

I am so thankful when God sends those "you can't help but laugh" moments my way. Laughter is good medicine!

God MULTIPLIED His Blessing!

God is amazing!

Each year in October I set time aside to Celebrate God and His blessings. And each year, God sends special gifts and blessings my way as constant reminders of His love and care. This year He sent several blessings. (Read posts dated October 16—29, 2010 for the details.)

God is so creative

in presenting His

blessings and gifts to me.

This year He used a contest. I won a Cowboy Grillin' Pack, which included a large grill and LOTS of goodies.

Over the years, God has been very gracious to send blessing not just for me, but for my friends as well. And the Cowboy Grillin' Pack is an example.

God MULTIPLIED this blessing

so that others could share in His goodness!

God could have chosen ANY brand and ANY size grill. And HE made sure that the prize was a Char Broil RED® FOUR-BURNER INFRARED GRILL WITH AUTO-CLEAN™.

God had a very specific plan in mind!

Special and dear friends of mine like the Char Broil brand grills. A while back, they has discussed that in the future, they'd like a new one for their patio. As I looked at the grill and thought of how special these friends are.... I knew exactly what God wanted me to do!

This was a blessing that God

wanted me to PAY FORWARD!

My friends are getting the Char Broil 4 burner infrared Grill and most of the extras, and in turn they are buying me the much smaller CHAR BROIL ELECTRIC GRILL! Yes, an ELECTRIC GRILL, that means no lugging gas tanks or charcoal up the apartment. I just plug it in and grill. And it takes wood chips so I'll have the flavoring of grilling. The smaller size will fit on my balcony.

Why didn't God just give me the smaller grill? Because God wanted me to be able to share this gift with my friends. Not only am I blessed by God's gift, my friends can enjoy God's blessing too.

This blessing MULTIPLIED!

My friends have a new grill which they will make very good use of... and I'll have a smaller grill perfect for my needs.

God designed this gift SPECIFICALLY

to be MULTIPLIED to those around me.

How cool is that!!??

Descending from the Mountain Top

During the month of October,
I spent time
Celebrating God's

Amazing Blessings.

And as I celebrated His past blessings, God showered me with some wonderful gifts as constant reminders of His goodness and love.

The month was truly

a "mountain top" experience.

Often after something wonderful happens, we have a "let down". We go from the high mountain top of rejoicing down to the depths of despair. Why the extremes? I think it's one way Satan discourages us and tries to make us forget God's goodness and love. Satan doesn't want us to rejoice in God's goodness. Rather, Satan wants us to wallow in defeat and despair. Satan wants to keep us in the lowest valley he can find.

However, Satan forgets that even.....

Though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You [God] are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

The past two weeks, I've been doing a Bible Study on "In the Presence of Jehovah". (Based on the song sung by Damaris Carbaugh.)
One passage of Scripture used was Psalm 34:17-19.

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all;

As part of the study I was to rewrite these verses in my own words, making them personal to me. Little did I realize how studying these verses would be vital to "coming off the mountain top" this past week. However, God knew exactly what I'd need and made sure I'd study these verses at the exact time I'd need them! Here is how I made the verses personal to me:

When I appeal to God for help, understanding, support, comfort, He gives earnest heed to snatch away all my affliction, anguish, distress. The Eternal One is near (place & time) to pulverize my will and mind to give me victory. I may have an abundance of discouragement, hurt, harm, but Jehovah, snatches me away and spares me from all, the entirety of that which concerns me.

Satan has been using my pain to create fear in my heart and mind. (Similar to this blog post: Fear Creates Its Own Reality.) Being off pain medications since this Summer has been the most difficult challenge in my life. A few weeks ago, a new injury has increased my pain. It's even more difficult to function with this new level of pain. Satan likes to use my pain to change my focus from being in God's presence to living a life of fear and hopelessness.

Yet, as I consider that....

God gives EARNEST HEED to SNATCH AWAY all my anguish.... HE IS NEAR (place and time—that means HERE RIGHT NOW!), and God SNATCHES me away and SPARES me from the ENTIRETY of what concerns me....

....I can't help but think—
WOW!

God is present with me. God is VERY AWARE of my pain. He is very aware of Satan and his attacks on me. God isn't JUST AWARE—GOD is TAKING ACTION! He is and will care for me.

God may not lower my pain level, but what God will do—if I allow Him—is PULVERIZE my WILL and MIND. What does that mean? That means that God will give me a NEW way of thinking. God will take my fear and replace it with His peace and calmness. God will give me strength to continue on the journey He's planned for me.

So, as I come off the mountain top of Celebrating God's goodness—yes, Satan is waiting—however, my God is right there with me.

You see, God didn't stay on the top of the mountain.

He came down with me too!

For God is NEAR in PLACE AND TIME! WOW!!!

If you are in a valley right now,

spend some time IN THE PRESENCE OF JEHOVAH.

Spending time with God is the only way

to create a positive day

as you walk through a valley!

High or Low: What is my level of Praise?

This was posted on Tony Evan's FB page. As it read it, I realized just how true it is. As I continued to think on it, I questioned:

What makes my level of praise

hit an all time low?

It didn't take me long to figure out the answer. The past two weeks, I've been doing a Bible Study on "In the Presence of Jehovah" based on the song sung by Damaris Carbaugh.

When I spend time in the presence of God, my level of praise rises to new heights. Being in God's presence is comforting, encouraging, worshipful, humbling, and life changing.

When I spend time worshiping and praising God, that transfers to all aspects of my life. God provides new perspectives and insights. In God's presence, He confirms that He knows exactly what is happening and He is in control of it all. He has a plan and is accomplishing that plan.

There is a thought that:

If you live with someone long enough,

you not only begin to think like them,

you look like them too.

I want that to be true of my relationship with God. I want to spend time in God's presence, so that His thoughts become my thoughts and I want people to see Christ in me and through me.

If my complaining becomes an "all time high", and my praise hits an "all time low"; than I am over due for some time in God's presence.

When my relationship is right with God,

being in God's presence

is the most secure, peaceful,

and encouraging place I can be.

Creating a positive day is almost automatic

Yes, God provided

ANOTHER Blessing gift today!

With my new Vegan diet, many recipes call for roasting the vegetables. I don't have a "real" roasting pan. To roast Acorn squash, the lasagna pan does okay, since only the top has to roast. But to roast vegetables on all sides, it doesn't do the trick.

I researched roasting pans and found one that was "acceptable" according to the various reviews, and it was almost in my price range. I added it to my "wish list", to wait for it to fit the budget.

Today, on the way home from my Chiropractor, I saw an ESTATE SALE sign. The car turned down the street before I realized it! I stopped and went into the house. There was stuff in the garage, backyard, main floor, upstairs and downstairs.

I saw several things in the garage that would be fun to have, but knew that they weren't in the budget. I continued through the backyard and entered the kitchen, then went upstairs. There were many nice things throughout the home, but all out of my price range.

I was heading out the door, when the lady asked if I had been downstairs. I kindly replied, "no", and turned to walk out the front door.

I was STOPPED

LITERALLY in my tracks!

They were moving furniture out the front door, so I had to move out of the way.... and where did I end up? At the stairway heading downstairs!

I figured that I was to go look downstairs! Again there were some very nice items, but nothing I needed, so I turned to head back up... that's when I saw them..... sitting on a small sink counter in the corner of the room.... ROASTING PANS!

I looked them over and saw the price for the set was LESS than HALF of ONE NEW PAN! And the REALLY cool thing... if all this wasn't enough... was that one pan was smaller... perfect for me to roast "single servings".

So, not ONLY did God provide

a Roasting pan—

He provided TWO!

And God made sure that

I had one that was

JUST THE RIGHT SIZE!!!

GOD LOVES DETAILS!!!

Some have asked why I celebrate the anniversary of my back injury. Well, I don't celebrate the "injury", rather I celebrate God and His Goodness. Over the past 10 years, God has taken care of me in the most AMAZING, CREATIVE, and AWESOME ways—and the LEAST I can do is spend some time PRAISING GOD and CELEBRATING Him and His Goodness.

Creating a positive day EACH day is one way I can celebrate God's goodness. When I focus on the positive, I am rejoicing in God's love.
